There’s something about a styled wedding shoot that just scratches the creative itch in the best possible way. Give me a beautiful venue, a group of passionate suppliers, a couple willing to pretend they’re madly in love for a few hours, and I’m happier than a wedding guest spotting the dessert table before speeches.

Styled shoots often get misunderstood. Some people think they’re purely for photographers to build a portfolio, but honestly? That’s usually the least important part for me.

It’s About Supporting Other Suppliers

One of the biggest reasons I’ll jump at the chance to be involved in a styled shoot is because it helps support venues and fellow wedding suppliers.

As photographers, we’re actually quite lucky. We leave every wedding with hundreds, sometimes thousands, of images we can use to showcase our work. Florists, cake makers, dress boutiques, stationers, stylists… they don’t always get that same opportunity. Their hard work can disappear after one day unless someone documents it properly.

Styled shoots give everyone the chance to show future couples what they’re capable of, and honestly, seeing a whole team come together to create something beautiful is pretty special. It’s like the wedding industry’s version of the Avengers… but with more candles and fewer explosions.

I’ve Met Some of My Favourite Humans Through Styled Shoots

Running a wedding business can sometimes feel a bit lonely. A lot of the work happens behind screens, in editing caves, or while answering emails at questionable hours with a coffee in hand and one eye twitching.

Styled shoots bring people together.

Not in a stiff, awkward “networking event” kind of way either. It’s creative people collaborating, bouncing ideas around, hyping each other up, fixing buttonholes, steaming dresses, moving chairs approximately 47 times for “the vibe”… you know, normal wedding industry behaviour.

Some of my favourite people I’ve met in this industry have come from styled shoots, and I genuinely think that’s because you get to see people at their most creative, passionate, and excited.

They Remind Me Why I Love This Job

Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely adore real weddings. Nothing beats genuine moments, emotional vows, or dance floor chaos.

But styled shoots are different in the best way.

There’s less pressure, less running around checking timelines, and less mentally calculating whether the speeches are about to overrun by 35 minutes. It’s a chance to slow down a little, experiment creatively, and simply enjoy taking photographs.

No ticking boxes.

No stress.

Just creativity and good energy.

Honestly, sometimes it’s exactly what my brain needs.

Thinking About Planning a Styled Shoot?

I’m currently toying with the idea of officially offering styled shoot photography as part of my services, because honestly, I love capturing them.

There’s something really exciting about photographing a creative vision from the ground up. Whether it’s helping a venue show off a new space, capturing the tiny details a florist poured their heart into, or creating content that suppliers can proudly share with future couples, styled shoots are such a brilliant way to bring ideas to life.

So if you’re planning a styled shoot and need a photographer who’ll happily crawl into bushes, stand on chairs, and get far too emotionally invested in table styling, I’d love to hear from you.

Whether your vision is elegant and editorial, colourful and chaotic, or somewhere in between, I’m always up for creating something beautiful with good people. And preferably snacks. Snacks are important.
